Running schedule is ongoing

Nothing special to write about recently.

A couple weeks ago I spent an entire week in Las Vegas for a conference. Not the place for believers in God to be spending any amount of time. I made it out of the hotel 3 days for my runs. It is not a very good running environment running down the main road. Way too much emissions from the cars.

So I'm on schedule for, well, I'm just on schedule. At this point I really don't have any plans. I would like to run a couple more 5k runs before the end of the year. Right now I don't much desire to run a 10k race. I suppose it may be that I know my times will be terrible.

Now that I'm in the middle of my 10k schedule my legs have been really dead recently. My entire day is determined by the long runs. What I mean by that is once I've ran I'm so tired I can't do much the rest of the day.

It's funny how the appetite comes and goes during all of this. At the beginning of the 5k schedule I could not eat enough. Towards the end it tapered off. Now in the middle of the 10k schedule I'm back to wanting to eat all the time.

Long run

Today I ran 6.75 which is the longest run of my life. I was supposed to go 7 but I didn't remember all my turns correctly. Got to get some sort of GPS that will help out on these long runs. Did this in 58 minutes.

Last week I was at a conference in Las Vegas (from Sunday to Saturday). I was only able to get in 3 of 5 runs for the week. This week I should be back on schedule.

Liz Hurley 5k - 23:45

Nice day for a race (although it did start raining at about 30 minutes into the ladies race). About 45 at start time. I thought I might get a bit cold but did not. About half way into the race I was pretty hot.

My personal best. I couldn't have done any better. I had no kick at the end so I guess that tells me that I was letting it go during the race.

First off, I have to remember to get closer to the start line. By no means I'm I going to be winning a race but in this race I got stuck behind a lot of folks. I had to do quite a bit of weaving and short sprints between folks. That probably took some out of me. My time might have been just a bit better but only by seconds. (I have my time from start line to finish line as 23:34 - the shoe timers start as soon as they say go - so I was about 14 seconds deep in the crowd)

I told Genoa that the race really seemed to go by quick in relative terms. The other races I've ran I would think it's never going to end.

Official Results - #117 out of 515 - 23:45

The thing I feel best about was that during the race I kept passing people. I only got passed just a few times. I was gaining while most folks were falling back (or something like that).

That is a really nice running course. The last hill is kind of tough but very doable. I thought just after the race that it wasn't bad at all (the hill). The last straight-a-way is really nice to have a the end of a race. I gave it all I could down that stretch.

I'm also glad that in my 3 races so far I've gotten better each time: 25:06, 24:23, and now 23:45.

I think the next race might be the Rudolf Run on Dec 19th.

UPDATE 6:40pm - I'm fairly certain I left it all on the course this morning. My legs are sore. They hardly ever get sore.

Faster 3 Miler

I had my fastest 3 mile time yet: 22:51.

It was very HUMID. I always wonder what it would be like if it were cooler when I have these good runs. Also, my legs were heavy from the previous two days of running.

I was very pleased with my time despite those two things.

There was an interesting touch to this run. I was charged by a dog twice at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Houston Street. I had to yell at it loudly to get it to back off. I'm not sure he would have bitten me but I didn't want to take a chance. There was a lady walking into her house just to the west of that house. She said to me that the dog goes from fence to fence and nobody does anything about it. So I thought I would try. I called it in to animal control as soon as I got home. I got their recording so I have no idea if they even did anything.
